Why will Smithfield Library’s public amenities be upgraded?

Smithfield Library’s public amenities will temporarily close from 23 July until November 2026 due to renovation works. Council is committed to providing accessible and hygienic amenities, this renovation project will see Smithfield Library’s amenities upgraded to improve accessibility, hygiene standards and overall customer experience for the community.

How long will the amenities be closed and when will they reopen?

The amenities will temporarily close while upgrade works are carried out. The closure period will be from 23 July until November 2026.

Will there be any disruptions to library services during the renovation?

No, Smithfield Library remains open and fully operational during the renovation. Customers can continue to access the library via the front entrance door. Lending services, collections, events and programs will remain unchanged. Where are the nearest alternative amenities for customers?

Temporary amenities are available for members of the public and located in the library car park. The temporary amenities are accessible during Smithfield library's opening hours.

Are there wheelchair accessible amenities provided and/or baby change facilities?

Temporary wheelchair accessible amenities will be available in the library carpark during the upgrade work; however, baby change tables will not be available during this period.
