Home Library

Are you or someone you know homebound and unable to visit the library?

Cairns Libraries offers a free Home Library delivery service, tailored to individual needs. Our Home Library delivery service delivers to those who are unable to access library services due to illness, disability or advanced age. Items from our collection are selected by the library team and delivered by our volunteers.

Eligibility

Residents who live in the Cairns local government region may apply to receive the Home Library Service. To qualify for the service, you must either reside in a supported living establishment such as a nursing home, or provide a doctor’s certificate stating your inability to access library services due to illness, disability or advanced age.

Apply

Registration for the Home Library Service may be made over the telephone and, if approved, a delivery date will be negotiated. Library staff will contact you further to arrange a Membership Application Form and Reader Profile.

Delivery

Deliveries and collections for Home Library service members are on a monthly basis. You will be notified of any changes to deliveries. As a Home Library service borrower you may borrow up to 30 items at a time, for 60 days. If you require a loan extension please organise this with library staff. Loans made through the Home Library program are exempt from overdue fines, however you are expected to be responsible for all borrowed materials.

Services

Cairns Libraries aims to provide much the same services to our Home Library members as we do to those who are able to visit the Library. We deliver normal and large print books, magazines, audio-visual items such as audiobooks, DVDs and CDs. Please contact Library staff if you would like to request specific items or information.

Contact
