Images of Queensland - its people and places, past and present

Cairns Libraries has recently partnered with the State Library of Queensland in this unique project which collects special and significant photographs of Queensland.

The photographs in Picture Queensland depict various aspects of Queensland life including the settlement of early pioneers, the prominent people who have shaped our history, contribution of Indigenous Queenslanders, buildings, and the fashions we have worn through the years.

The collection benefits students, researchers, writers, genealogists and enthusiasts of all ages who want to explore the history of Queensland by accessing the Internet.

In the coming months Cairns libraries will coordinate the selection of local photographs to add to the Picture Queensland project.

Images depicted in Picture Queensland will also be accessible in Picture Australia administered by the National Library of Australia. Further information will be provided as the project progresses.
