Who can borrow?
. Members of Cairns Libraries can borrow items
. Membership is available to residents and/or ratepayers of Queensland, businesses or organisations based in Cairns, and visitors to the city


How do you join?
. Queensland residents need to provide identification, and sign a completed membership enrolment form and card. Each item of ID is awarded a number of points. Most adults will have enough ordinary items of ID in their wallets or purses to achieve the required 50 points
. Residents can join at any one of the 9 Cairns libraries, or download the application for membership form and bring the completed form and required ID with you
. Children under 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult for the provision of ID
. Cairns City organisations and businesses need to supply a letter on their official letterhead and signed by the manager, principal or similar person of authority, nominating a representative who will sign a completed enrolment form & membership card on behalf of the organisation. If the signatory changes at any time, it is the responsibility of the organisation to notify Cairns Libraries immediately and provide the revised details.

. Visitors are welcome at Cairns Libraries and may become lifetime members upon production of ID items totaling 20 points and payment of a one off membership fee detailed in Cairns Regional Council Fees and charges schedule.

. Books - Fiction and non-fiction for children and adults, including large print format, Languages Other Than English
. Magazines
. Cassettes
. CDs
. Talking books
. Videos

The online catalogue allows you to:
. Search our entire library collection of around 200,000 items
. View a list of new additions to the collection
. View your current items on loan
. Make reservations and renew your items online


How many items can be borrowed?
. Up to 10 (ten) items at one time can be borrowed
. You may reserve any item currently on loan to another borrower. The library will notify you when the item is available for collection

How long can items be borrowed?
. 3 weeks
. If you require items for a longer period, contact the library in person, by phone or login to Member Services on the Online Catalogue to extend your loan. The library can arrange a further 3 weeks extension, providing another customer has not reserved the items
. Always bring your membership card with you when you wish to borrow

How are items returned?
Items may be returned to any of the eight library branches. There are after-hours return bins at each branch. Return sites are also located at Westcourt Plaza and Stockland Earlville shopping centres
and CWA Hall Port Douglas.

Membership to Cairns Libraries is free to Cairns residents, special conditions apply to visitor membership
