From Sunday 8 January 2012 Cairns City Library will cease Sunday trading.
Our library hours will be:
Monday to Friday 10am - 6pm
Saturday 9am - 12noon

National Year of Reading 2012
In 2012 Cairns Libraries will be celebrating National Year of Reading (NYR2012) with a series of events, displays and workshops. NYR2012 will be launched nationwide on Tuesday 14 February - Library Lovers' Day.

On Feb 14, visitors to Cairns Libraries will have the opportunity to meet with local National Year of Reading champions, view innovative displays, meet Dewey the library mascot, participate in programs including “Blind Date with a Book”, language tree, board games and colouring with great prizes and giveaways.

Computers for Beginners Training Workshops - resume February 2012
Cairns Libraries have recommenced our Computer Training Program. Training includes Introduction to Computers, Introduction to Word Processing, Introduction to searching the Internet, and Introduction to email.

Gordonvale Library - Every 2nd Friday of the Month - 1 hour sessions at 10.30am and 11.30am. Bookings essential, phone Gordonvale Library on 4056 1365.

Manunda Library - Every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the Month 10.30-12.00pm. Bookings essential, phone Manunda Library on 4044 3779.

Mossman Library - Computer for Beginner workshops are held regularly. Bookings essential, phone Mossman Library on 4099 9496.

New Ramp for Babinda Library
Redevelopment of the new ramp will begin on Monday 9th January and is expected to take around 4-5 weeks depending on weather conditions. During this period access will be at the back via a temporary pathway along the side of the library. This project is supported by the Commonwealth Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs. More information...

Story Time and Baby Rhyme Time
Mossman Library's final Storytime and Baby Rhyme Time for 2011 will be held December 15 and resuming on January 12 2012. Earlville Library's first Baby Rhyme Time will be on Tuesday 3rd January 2012. Gordonvale, Edmonton and Manunda Library's children's events will begin in February 2012. Please check our Lifestyle Calendar for session times.

Cairns Libraries now subscribes to SpineOut Online - SpineOut encourages young adults to be part of an online magazine by submitting book reviews, book trailers, poems, short stories, music lyrics, videos and art work. It's a special place where youth can not only express their ideas and thoughts and share their creativity online with peers but also experience the thrill of seeing their work published online. Genealogy Resources Available
Cairns Libraries now has FindMyPast Australasia, FindMyPast United Kingdom and FindMyPast Ireland on the public access PC's in all branches. These are both very useful subscription services and complement ancestry.com which has been available in our libraries for some time and are free to all members. If you have never booked a public PC before please see one of our friendly Cairns Libraries team members for assistance.

Dewey's Star Reading Club Passports
Cairns Libraries has created a special reading passport just for junior members! Kids can pick up a Dewey's Star Reading Club Passport from any branch of Cairns Libraries and get it stamped each time they borrow. When their passport is full they can swap it for a new one and go in a monthly prize draw!
