Telling Our Stories
Festival Cairns 2009

Join Cairns Libraries staff to celebrate Festival Cairns 2009 with the Cairns Oral History: Telling our stories Project.

This project aims to capture and preserve the stories and rich history of the people of the Cairns Region.

To launch this project Cairns Libraries will present a series of live interviews during Festival Cairns. These will take place in various branch libraries across the region and will feature a variety of members of the community.

  • Monday 31 August at 10.30am, at Gordonvale Library meet local identity, bookbinder and member of the Queensland Police Dave Raymond who will discuss his active and varied life.

  • Tuesday 1 September at 10.30am, at Babinda Library meet with Kitty Anning, proprietor of the historic Babinda State Hotel, the last standing State owned hotel in Australia.

  • Thursday 3 September at 10.30am, at Earlville Library popular Cairns actor, director and personality Wayne Rees will recount his recollections of Cairns.

  • Friday 4 September at Stratford Library at 2pm, Cairns adventurer and inspirational speaker Paul Hockey will recount some of his life’s adventures.
