Gordonvale Library serves the community of Gordonvale and its surrounds. It originally opened in June 1954 in the Queensland School of Arts building which was located on this same site. The present library was built by the then Mulgrave Shire Council and opened on 24th September 1956. At the time, it was the "main library" for Mulgrave Shire Council. It consisted of two outdoor reading rooms, one for adults and one for children. At the time there were 4,502 items in the library. Gordonvale Library currently offers a full range of services including photocopying, access to three computers for word processing or internet via a booking management system, and a daily courier service to ensure residents have access to the full range of items on Cairns Libraries catalogue. In 1996 a Council Customer Service Office, meeting room and Councillor's office were added to the front of the library. Residents can still pay their rates, dog registrations and water rates at the Office and also make any other Council enquiry. These days Gordonvale Library has 9,875 items in its collection including DVDs, CDs, newspapers and magazines. In 2010/11, 71,233 people visited the Library, borrowed 62,720 items and placed 12,703 reservations. Story time sessions are held on the 1st Tuesday of each month. Check our Lifestyle Calendar. Please contact library staff to make a booking.
