Edmonton Library began life as a School of Arts. It was officially opened on 30 November, 1975 by the then, Mulgrave Shire Council. Since then, it has served the expanding population centres of Edmonton and adjacent localities such as Bentley Park. The library was substantially upgraded in 2004 creating a more spacious and inviting reading area, children’s area, and PC spaces. Bright new signage and improved shelving provided greater access to the library collection and the upgraded circulation desk enabled customers to be served more efficiently. The upgraded library was officially launched on 19th November 2004. Edmonton Library currently offers a full range of services including photocopying, access to two computers for word processing or internet via a booking management system, and a daily courier service to ensure residents have access to the full range of items on Cairns Libraries' catalogue. Edmonton Library has 10,053 items in its collection including DVDs, CDs, newspapers and magazines. In 2010/11, 50,723 people visited the library, borrowed 55,846 items and placed 11,800 reservations. Story time sessions are held on the 1st Thursday of each month. Check our Lifestyle Calendar. Please contact library staff to make a booking.
