Babinda Library opened its doors to the public in 1955. It is the southern-most of Cairns Libraries' branches and is located in a heritage listed building on Munro Street. In March 2000, the Babinda Library building was listed in the "Cultural Heritage Study Town of Babinda" document. Babinda is Cairns Libraries' smallest branch. It offers a full range of services including photocopying, access to two computers for word processing or internet via a booking management system, and a daily courier service to ensure residents have access to the full range of items on Cairns Libraries' catalogue. In addition, residents may pay some Council fees, such as dog registrations at the library. This service however excludes payment of rates. Many changes to the Library have occurred over the years including upgrades to the building, grounds, fittings and the recent installation of solar panels. Babinda Library has a total of 8,434 items in its collection including DVDs, CDs, newspapers and magazines. In 2010/11, 32,601 people visited the library, borrowed 19,981 items and placed 4,821 reservations. Story time sessions are held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. Check our Lifestyle Calendar. Please contact library staff to make a booking.
